Rwanda TV Celebrates Innovative MGS STEM Projects
This Fall, Rwanda TV featured two Maranyundo Girls School (MGS) students and their Makerspace STEM projects (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in an aired news story. Watch the brief news clip here.
Etia Meggin Kaze completed an agricultural project that automates irrigation systems, adapting to seasonal climate shifts from the wet to dry seasons based on readings from its built-in soil moisture sensor.
Ange Darlene Keza, another MGS student, was featured for her development of a robotic limb. She hopes that one day, bio-robotic innovations like hers will allow those with disabilities to live more independently.
Keza studies Math, Physics, and Chemistry at MGS and expressed gratitude for the Maranyundo Makerspace, and how the experimental freedom within the Makerspace allow her to fulfill her curiosity and discover her purpose in society.
What is a Makerspace?
A Makerspace is a place that students have access to tinker, experiment, and test their skills in robotics, engineering, and creativity. The MGS Makerspace provides students access to computers, Legos, robotics, 3D printers, and more. The Makerspace allows a chance for students to dream big, by testing concepts learned in classes in real-world applications.
With the construction of the Maranyundo Training and Learning Center (MTLC) underway, and set to open in 2025, there will be offerings for both teachers and students to learn under a STEM & Makerspace focused curriculum!
